Ultrasound

We had our ultrasound last week and things went well. What they look for are any markers that might be present. For example, longer femur or humerus (spelling?), large skin folds at the back of the neck, absent nasal bone and/or problems with organs that downs baby usually exhibit. The great news is that our baby boy exhibited none of these markers at this time. His organs are still too small to check extensively, so we have another appointment on October 7th to double check everything.

I feel a fair amount of relief after this appointment. He put our chances of downs from 1 in 94 to 1 in 188. If everything measures ok in October then he will put our chances back up to 1 in 250 which is the highest for my age category. Of course there is still this nagging in the back of my mind that says what if..... I mean realistically there is about a .56% chance this child will have downs. I would say pretty great odds, right??
